Strong Family Bond

Building a bond as a family is one of the most important things you can do.  But it can also be difficult. Families get busy with work, friends, school and events.  Although you get busy, there are lots of ways to build a closer family bond.

What is a Family Bond?

A family bond is the relationship between a family unit.   If you have a weak family relationship, your bond is weak.  If you have a strong relationship, you have a strong bond.

What is Family Bonding Time?

Family bonding time is time that you spend together as a family without distractions.  Strong families spend quality family time doing something together. It is a time for parents and kids to connect.

One of the benefits of family time is it can build trust between members of the family. Building family relationships and instilling the importance of family are so important when you are raising your children.

While this seems like something that should come natural, with kids being in so many activities and parents often both working, it can be harder to find time than you would think.

What are the Benefits of Family Bonding?

There are many benefits to bonding as a family.  It strengthens a parents relationship with their children and vice versa.  Helping to nurture this relationship helps to build trust between all family members.  This is extremely important as kids get older. It will help them to feel as though they can go to their parents with any problems.

It is also a relationship that will continue long after the kids are grown up.  The most important thing is to spend special time together. It doesn’t have to be anything big or elaborate. Sometimes its the little things that help to build that bond.

Why is Family Bonding Important?

Family bonding is important because it connects the entire family together.  It also can help to open the lines of communication between parents and children.  As parents, we want our kids to be able to feel comfortable talking to us about anything.  Spending quality time together helps to foster this relationship.

What Activities Can Help with Family Bonding?

There are many activities that you can do as a family that can really build a solid bond.  Some are simple and some require more effort. Here are some great ways to strengthen your family relationship:

Having Family Dinners Together:  This one probably seems simple but is probably the one of the best ways to build that special bond.  The act of actually sitting together at the dinner table and sharing family meals provides a time, even if it’s only 20 minutes, that you are all together.

It carves out time for you to talk, joke and bond. You can share about how your day went or what you will do the next day.

Family Vacation:  The trip can be long or short, near or far, but some time away from the hustle and bustle of every day life gives you time for the whole family fun and to make some memories.  This bonding time takes a lot of life’s distractions out of the equation and allows you to focus on your family.

Plus what is more fun that being able to reminisce and talk about those great memories that only your family has for years to come! It is the perfect time to focus on just your family.

Do a Fun Activity Together:  Doing an activity together is a great way to bond as a family!  It can be as simple as coloring or playing with blocks or cars. It can be a little more involved like playing games outside or playing a detective game together.

Board Games are also a great activity to do as a family. Setting aside a weekly family game night is a great opportunity to spend time together.

A favorite of ours is a nature scavenger hunt.  It incorporates taking a walk together through nature and exploring  all things nature.

Weekly Family Movie Nights:  There’s nothing better than popping a bag a popcorn, putting together some snack mixes, gathering blankets and pillows and all watching a movie together.  It’s a great activity to bond as a family!

A fun twist on this is putting together an outdoor movie night!  Every kid loves spending as much time outside as possible and this is another way to bond and keep the outdoor fun going.

Create Family Traditions:  A great way to bond as a family is to create traditions together.  Whether it’s an annual trip you take together, a fun holiday tradition you come up with, or just an everyday thing that you do together like going grocery shopping, they are all go a long way towards strengthening your relationship.

A tradition is something that is just shared between the people involved so it makes it that much more special.

Have a Family Dance Party: This can sound silly, but it is a fun way to spend time together. Kids think it’s funny to watch your moves and anything that gets them moving is awesome!

Have an Ice Cream Party: This is such a fun way to spend time together. Most kids love ice cream – set up a fun ice cream sundae bar. Then sit and enjoy your treat together!

Participate in School Activities: Whether it is taking the time to read to your child’s class or attending a fundraiser, these are a fun way to spend time together. And one of the best things is that it will make your child feel special to have a shared experience together.

At the end of the day, anything that you do together as a family bonds you.  It is so important to spend that time together.   Strong bonds of a loving family are built by spending that time together.

  1. We eat dinner together at the dinner table every night! It’s a ritual we started when my husband and I were just dating, but we’ve kept it going and I’m super thankful we did! I feel like when our boys are older (they’re 2, and 5 months) that they’ll appreciate it.

  2. I love this! It is so important to have a strong family who spends time together and enjoys each other’s company. I feel like in today’s busy world, the value of family time is often forgotten. These are great activities that are easy to implement, but go a long way!
