Hi! I’m Steph and welcome to Dresses & Dinosaurs! I’m so happy you are here! I am the lucky mom of a little girl Peyton and little boy Gage. But life wasn’t always that way…
I came out of college with a Bachelors of Accounting and a job as a corporate tax accountant at a Big 4 accounting firm. What lots of people dream of, right? I spent almost 15 years in public accounting, returning part time after the birth of my daughter, Peyton, and finding that it wasn’t really working for me and I wasn’t happy. I wanted to do a great job at work but I wasn’t. I wanted to be perfect at home but I didn’t feel like I was. So instead of being fulfilled by both worlds, I felt like I was failing at both. I just couldn’t get the balance that I was seeking.
When my son was born, I made the decision to leave the corporate world and take on my most important (and scary) role as a stay at home mom. I was excited, I was scared, I was nervous and I couldn’t imagine anything better in the world. And I still have all those feelings almost year later.
I went from days of feeling the need to focus outside my family to being able to focus completely on my family and I couldn’t be happier. But it was not an easy transition to say the least – days are more unstructured and even though I am no longer at work, I am still trying to figure out how to get everything done. Instead of focusing on spreadsheets or clients, I’m cutting food into tiny pieces for my almost one year old and reading books and singing songs with him. I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world, but things like the laundry, dishes and grocery shopping still has to get done. So you figure out a new schedule. You make a schedule that works for you and still makes you feel fulfilled.
I’m excited to share with you things I have learned and tips I have come across since becoming a mom, since deciding to be a stay at home mom and how to keep your identity when most days all you hear yourself called is Mom, mama, or mommy. I hope you all enjoy the journey with me and learn some tips and tricks along the way!
