Best Things About Being a Stay-at-Home Parent

When you have young children, there is a big decision to be made.  You must decide if you want to be a working mom or a stay at home mom.

While in some cases you simply may not be able to afford staying home,  there are a lot of great benefits to being a stay at home mom if you can.

Childcare Costs

One of the first steps in making this decision is to look at child care if want to continue to be a working mother.  The cost of child care is expensive, especially if you need it to cover a full-time job.  In some cases, the money you make from working may not offset enough of the childcare to make it worth it.

Saving this money by staying home with your children may be the best option for your family finances and are a great benefit to staying at home.

Not Missing Those Big Milestones

A great reason to be a stay at home mom is so that you don’t miss out on those big milestones as your baby, and then your toddler start to grow up.

It can be heartbreaking to miss their first steps or first word.  Spending that time with them while they grow and develop is some thing that no amount of money can replace.

Not Worrying About Sick Days

When you work in traditional jobs, sick days become a concern.  Often if a baby is ill, a daycare will send them home.  They can also more easily catch illnesses in childcare.  Every little kid has a constant runny nose all winter long!

If you are working, worrying about how many sick days you need to take to care for your sick kids can be stressful.  Especially if your boss gives you a hard time.

If you are a stay at home mom, you don’t need to worry about that.  You have all the time you need to care for your sick child and comfort them to help them feel better.

Volunteering at Your Child’s School

When your kids start to go to elementary school, having time available to volunteer for such things as being a chaperone on a field trip, reading to their classroom or helping out with school events is such an amazing benefit for stay-at-home mothers.

This can also include attending a school performance by your child.  They often have holiday concerts or other events during school hours that you may not be able to attend otherwise.

My kids love when I’m able to be part of their experiences at school.  It’s fun to get to know their teachers better and the other kids in their class.  Especially after not being able to be in the schools during the pandemic.  As the kids are starting to get their footing back, so are the parents.

Spending Quality Time with Your Kids

Children are only little once.  And when people say that the time flies by, they are not joking!  In a blink of an eye, five or ten years will fly by!

My kids are heading into 3rd and 1st grade and I can hardly believe it!  I didn’t immediately become a stay at home mom when my daughter was born but I was more than ready to be one when my son came around.  And we have made so many memories!  Not missing my child‘s milestones was a big deal for me.

The reality is that every mom must make their own decision on the care of the kids.  Some people simply can not make it work based on their financial situation and need to keep their full time job.

Regardless of what decision you make, both being a working parent and stay at home parent are hard work.  The good news is there is no wrong answer.  As a mom, you can be a role model in either role because you are a child’s happy place. They look up to you and look to you for comfort.
