All Moms have guilty pleasures. We have to. Its our way of escaping the reality of Mom life and being able to switch off, even if its for 10 mins, a half hour, or an hour. An escape from the worries of all Moms: changing diapers, dirty dishes, laundry, screaming, fighting or whining kids, making meals (and trying to get your kids to eat it!) and cleaning up toys. As Moms, our days are filled with these things and sometimes it can feel as though you are living in the movie Groundhog Day with the same thing happening day in and day out with little change. You just need something to be able to take some time away from it all, no matter for what reason.
One of my favorite guilty pleasures and escapes is watching the reality TV show franchise, the Real Housewives. Admittedly, I am a TV junkie – I love a wide variety of shows, which includes a LOT of reality tv but with the birth of my kids, I had to cut out a bunch of shows because there was no longer enough time to fit them all in. But Real Housewives, at least some cities, absolutely made the cut. There is nothing like sitting down for an hour and losing yourself in the glitz and glamor of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, the on-again off-again friendship of Tamra and Vicki on Real Housewives of Orange County or my favorite, the unbelievable craziness of the Real Housewives of New York City.
These ladies lives are so different from mine – they have maids, and drivers, and nannies. They spend their days lunching and shopping, rarely with their kids in tow. The antics and lives of these women are so outrageous that it’s easy to get lost while watching them and be able to forget about all the day to day things that are going on and need to get done. There is nothing like watching a good fight between Housewives or watching a reunion show just knowing how these women are going to go to exhibit such a wide range of emotions.
